  • Failed to open database

Posted by Perry Trest on February 28, 2013 at 1:02 am

Did a search and followed a few recommended procedures with no success.

I just restored a Time Machine backup of my Resolve 9.1.1 system to a new SSD boot drive.
When I launch Resolve my database and users don’t appear and when I try to connect I get the following error:

    ERROR
Failed to open database connection: could not connect to server: connection refused
Is the server running on host “127.0.0.1” and accepting

I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing Resolve, and I’ve tried renaming the PostgreSQL folder and re-installing. When I put the original boot drive back in the system, everything works as it should. Can anyone suggest how I can get my original database and user settings restored? Thanks in advance!

You need to reinstall the PostGRES server. You can do it by downloading and rerunning the installer.

Juan, thanks for the quick response.
Is there a separate installer for the PostGRES server?
I tried a uninstall and re-install of the Resolve software with no success.

    Problem solved.

I ended up restoring a slightly older backup of the Resolve system and boom, everything is back to normal.
I suspect that the most current backup was incomplete in some way.

The new SSD drive is quite a bit zippier on boot up and application launch.

Which SSD is it? Is it in the 2nd optical bay or HDD 1?

    OWC
    240GB
    Mercury Electra™ 3G SSD
    2.5″ Serial-ATA 9.5mm Solid State Drive

It’s mounted in the second optical drive bay.

Just a word of warning to anyone that is using Time Machine as a backup. If Time Machine is backing up while your running resolve there is a strong chance of it not working when you try and restore it as resolve is constantly reading and writing to the postgres database.

To be safe I’d do some dedicated backups when moving systems like this. I wrote a article about all your options if your interested
