Hi all… I posted this topic before, but didn’t get any response. So I’m hopelessly trying to get a second chance and re-posting it. My problem is that I just installed AE CS3 and when I open it, I immediately get this error message: “failed to initialize media core”. Also AE CS3 does not let me import any movie or audio files. I made searches on google and creative cow and even adobe’s web site and came out with nothing.
My system: I mac G5 1.8 Ghz power pc
    1.25 Gb ram
    Mac osx 10.4.11
    Quick time 7.1.5

    Thanks for your help

Hi guys. I am having the same problem ” After Effects warning: Failed to initialize mediacore” I am running CS3 Master Collection. Just re-installed OS (XP) Installed some Trapcode plug-ins and now After Effects comes up this error.

I understand about uninstalling AE but what is .GL? New to technical Adobe stuff.

These methods work for me to fix my systems. Hopefully they help you too.

opengl won’t work with all graphics cards, so some AE users disable it. google opengl or wiki.

if uninstalling and re-installing and removing the trapcode plugins from the effects folder doesn’t work, then download microsoft’s free Windows Install Clean Up

    https://www.softpedia.com/get/Security/Secure-cleaning/Windows-Installer-CleanUp-Utility.shtml

and remove cs3 because your installishield might be corrupted, update InstallShield wouldn’t hurt too.

    https://consumerdocs.installshield.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=Q108322&sliceId=1

You could also try manually removing cs3 reg settings as a last resort, backup registry first though!

If you get past the mediacore crash and a plugin still locks up your project, to open the project with the bad effect,

“just turn the caps lock key on prior to opening the bad project. this will disable the preview update when the project opens, which will effectively disable the rendering of the effect, allowing you to go in and remove the effect form the comp.

once the effect is removed you can hit the caps lock key again and work as normal, perhaps saving first ;)” (kevin)

also i forgot to mention, this. delete any file in this TEMP folder or your installations might not be fresh.

    program files/common files/Adobe/installers/some long dirname…like dflkj3455

Thank you very much Chris for your help. I tried all that and did not work. So I did yet another complete system install.

This time after installing all drivers installed Adobe CS3 Master Suite first. Then checked AE was working and it was. Evey time I installed a new program I re-boot and checked if AE was still working. Finally found out it was the software for my Kworld DVB-100 Digital TV card that was doing it. So I have disabled the TV card and everything is working fine.

I will have to see if Kworld have updated drivers and see if that works.

But again thanks for the help.
