  • Failed exports creating hidden files.

Premiere seems to have filled my internal hard drive with hidden files from failed exports. I was exporting large video files from Premiere Pro CC when the exports failed. It seemed to be working on the export but filling up my RAM and then failing. I’m on a Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina with 16GB memory and was exporting to an external drive, but it still filled my internal. I’ve turned on hidden files in my finder and can’t find anything. I’ve backed all my files up to externals and deleted everything I could and gone through my drive with the WhatSize program and that says the drive has 233GB used but can only find about 50GB of stuff on the drive. Does anyone have any idea of where to find what’s taking up all the room? Any potential solution would be appreciated.

Premiere and Media Encoder share a cache on your main hard drive. You can clean it out by going to Preferences in Premiere, select Media, there you will find Media Cache Database. The Location will let you see the directory tree and the Browse button will let you change the location if needed. The Clean button will clean out those hidden files and make room on your drive. It’s a good idea to clean it periodically, especially when you’ve been doing a lot of heavy exporting.
