I have been able to fade one video into another if they are 2 different tracks. But now I want to fade one video into another on the same track. If I but them right up next to one another, I can fade the first to black, and then the second will fade in. If I overlap them, that fade I set goes away. I want to fade the first partially to black and then start fading in the second video. How can I do that?
    Thank
    Mike

As you have seen, trying to add individual fades doesn’t work because as soon as you place the two clips together the fades disappear. You must leave at least 1 frame between them for them to stay. If you want to fade to black and back it’s much easier to overlap your events and use the Dissolve transition with the Fade Through Black preset.

You can always use a Solid Black generated media on the track above – set the level to semi transparent and fade it in and out as desired.
