Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Fading 5.1 Audio?

  • Fading 5.1 Audio?

I’m using Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 9. I’m editing AVCHD clips from a Sony camcorder with 5.1 sound. When I place clips in the time line, the video occupies one track and the audio occupies 4 tracks: Front (stereo), Center, LFE, and Rear (stereo). It is nice that the program does it this way so that each audio channel can be edited separately, BUT:

Often I want to fade-in or fade-out the audio for a particular clip. When I fade the clip’s audio in the first audio track (which is the “front” channel), only that track fades. The other 3 audio tracks for that clip do not fade (Center, LFE, Rear). I have to manually make the identical fade in the other 3 audio tracks, one at a time, being careful to make the fades identical in length. Two questions:

    1. Is there a way to fade all four 5.1 audio tracks for a clip in the same operation, rather than one track at a time?

    2. In a related question, if I want to apply the same audio fade to several other clips (but not all of them), is there a way to do it without dealing with each clip individually? I tried copying and pasting “Event Attributes”, but that does not seem to include fades as one of the attributes it copies/pastes to another clip.

    Thanks.

Hit the B key to add a master bus. Then use this to create an envelope to fade everything.

Thanks for the reply. Hitting the B key doesn’t seem to do anything so I must be missing something.

This is Movie Studio Platinum 9. Based on the SCS Vegas product comparison webpage, I thought audio busing was only available in Vegas Pro?

Thanks Douglas for the tip. I have had this same question. After I read the tip you suggested, I went right into Vegas and played around with the sound a bit. The master bus fits the bill great in helping to work with 5.1 sound. In the short time I have been coming this forum, I have learned quite alot.
