Hi, although I’ve been using After Effects for many years now, I’m still not the most familiar with expressions.

I’m working on a scene that involves a camera flying through clouds, and I’m looking for the clouds to fad as the camera passes through them. If anyone could please help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I know this exact scenario has been posted about before, but I haven’t been having much luck following those solutions. Or rather in getting them to work for me.

So, my situation is thus, main comp, “Clouds Fly Through”, which contains the camera, and then 3 pre-comp layers of clouds (actually the same “Clouds” comp duplicated, and spread out in z space.

With the “Clouds” comp are 10 cloud layers, spread out in z space.

All pretty straight forward, except for when I try to work out the expression to put in the opacity property of the individual cloud layers in the “Cloud” comp.

Speculating, my problems may be coming from using the Clouds comp multiple times in the Fly Through comp?

I’ve also ran into trouble figuring out how to make this relative the the z planes, as opposed to going anchor point to anchor point.

    Thanks
    Glenn

I have had a similar project, and used the Atmosphere plugin to get it right.

Bas v Breugel, I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately that’s not in the budget for this project.
