  Fade – overexposed effect question

  I am trying to do a fade – overexposed effect on a lower third and am having a problem with the effect affecting the entire layer, not just the lower third. Is there a way to remedy this? I’ve tried masks, but maybe I’m just not doing something right? Any help would be appreciated!
