Facebook Live from iPhone, need the right audio cable/adaptor

So, I need a bulletproof, cheap, light solution to get mic level audio into an iPhone (that still has an audio jack) specifically for Facebook Live. I’m coming out of a mult box with line and mic outs selectable, this application is to feed from the mult into a civilian’s iPhone and still let them be able to monitor their own audio, since I won’t be free to babysit them. I’ve looked at the iRig pre, and I’ve looked at a simpler breakout cable in the 20 buck range on Amazon.

Any specific tricks to getting facebook live to accept that external audio, also appreciated.

Bonus point: same question, but how do I swing it for a newer iPhone that only has the lightning port? Again, criteria are: low cost, ease of use.
