    Hi

I’ve been looking everywhere for good information about this, but I’ve found no good examples with my specifications.

Situation: I have captured some footage from a VHS-tape using Eye-TV. It is a school made movie from 15 years ago that I want to reedit for the anniversary, so I want the quality to be maintained as good as possible. The 1h 50m video is about 5GB in size and 720×576 resolution PAL. It captures in MPEG-2.

My specifications are not great. I do not have a scratch disk (I guess USB do not count anyway), and my Macbook Pro is 2.26Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3 RAM. I have the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256 MB VRAM.

I have FCP and iMovie available for editing and MPEG Streamclip for transcoding.

Question:Given my specs, what fileformat should I go for to edit this. The end result is supposed to be DVD-video and Eye-TV captures in MPEG-2. Everywhere I go people have said Prores, but I’ve noticed I do not have the horse power to edit in Prores.

I’d be thankful for any help so I can get started with this project.

    /John

DV-PAL (dv25) will be fine. Yes, ProRes would be better. But DV PAL will work just fine and will work decently on your system.
