Extrusion?
I am using Adobe After Effects 6.5 and would like to know if I can create an extruded edge on an object (an outline of a state) to make it look more 3D. Or was that something added later…
I am also interested in knowing if there is a way to make something look like it’s a flag waving.
What if there were no hypothetical questions?

You can also do some basic extrusions using the Shatter effect. Another way is by duplicating a layer several times and offsetting the copies in z space.

An After Effects Community Help search for ‘waving flag’ is similarly useful.

for extrusions it might be worth getting the trial of cs3 or (i think it will work) cs4 and use this fab custom preset by maltaannon: https://maltaannon.com/articles/after-effects/studying-ce-shapeextruder/
used it loads and it works really well!
