I use QuickTime as an output format and my codec is MPEG-4.
    I render with OpenGL enabled.
I get these purple / magenta blocks in my footage.
    PICTURE:

    I also have another problem.
My composition is a room that has 3D walls made out of black solids.
    They rendered as WHITE!!!

What is causing these render problems?

I also have another problem (and a big one too).
    AfterEffects crashes while rendering.

I’ve been working on this comp for AGES, had one billion problems with it and now, when it is finished, it seems that I can not render it…

What is causing the crash problems?
    How can I solve them?

I have a 3D object in the composition that is applied through Zaxwerk’s 3D Invigorator.
It seems that the render crashes when this object appears on screen.
I am not 100% sure tha this is the reason, though.
    That’s why I need a second opinion.

    THANKS!

    And please comment.

If quicktime was corrupt, it would explain every problem you have listed. Try outputing a non-quicktime format, if that works then…

I would try to completely uninstall/remove any remnants of it. google various places it tries to hide, including registry, then install “windows install cleanup tool”. Finally, download the lastest quicktime from apple.com

Thanks, I tried different formats and codecs and te render still crashes.
At one point I turned OpenGL off, but I had several new crashes and AE I kept showing me messages that OpenGL is screwed.

Are you using any interframe compressed footage such as hdv, mpeg4 inside AE’s project files? You can try turning off opengl, and setting all AE’s memory to default by removing preference folder.

I am using QuickTime files in my comp.
I think they are compressed in JPEG, but I am not sure.
They are large in size – 720 (HD?).

    Where is the preference folder?
    How do I remove it?

OK, I am starting to get more and more confident that it is Zaxwerks’es plugin “3D Invigorator” that is causing the troubles.

What can I do in this case except for send a bitching letter to Zaxwerks and get a long but useless answer about how my machine sucks?

CTRL+ALT+SHIFT will ask you if you want to reset preference file as you open AE, but there could be a Zaxwerks issue such as the order or use of effects. I recommend Zaxwerks forums for known crashing problems. and your HD footage has to be intraframe compressed or AE could crash.

    Hmmm…
I will try resetting the AE preference file.
I have never set any settings on my own, but maybe this can help.

How do I know if my footage is intraframe compressed?
I rendered it in AE and then re-imported it back in a new comp.
I’m trying to remember if I used JPEG-2000 or osme other codec that goes with QuickTime.
