Extreme zoom (droste effect-ish)
High there creative cowers,
I am woking on a current project for one of our clients where i animate a lot of stills. This happens without any hard transitions, so it’s kinda like the camera is flying trough all these worlds an scenes. But now the tricky thing (or i hope not so tricky, but that i’m just stupid) The effect that i want to use more often here is one that you see a lot. For example the current scene zooms out and turns turns out to be a small photograph hanging on a wall in the next scene.
So that sounds easy, just parent everything together, zoom out en there you go. True, but here’s the thing, if i zoom out that extreme the scaling starts to act weird, andrew kramer had a fancy explanation for it but for me its just acting weird. And also Andrew had a solution for this in his earth zoom tutorial. Only his solution doesn’t really work for me.
Andrew’s solution was to turn exponential scale on so the zoom doesn’t go from slow to warp speed, but just remains a consistent speed. And the problem here is that you don’t have the option to ease in and out. Andrwes solution was to pre-comp it and use time-remapping. That is a very clever solution, however while the scaling is happening my composition is animating, and this is of course in conflict with the time-remapping (The animation stops when you ease out the time-remapping.
I was hoping that some people also encountered this problem and found the perfect solution for this. Al help is appreciated a lot! Thanks! -

Scale Parameter creates Jerk if the values are too big because of the math used in scale.
I would suggest you to make the comp 3D and then displace is in Z – axis to mimic the scale effect.

Thanks very much for replying Vishesh.
I already tried to do it with a camera in Z axis and it had the same kind of problem. I must say that i tried it really fast so i will try it again on monday when i’m back at work. But i’m quite sure that that doesn’t do the trick. So if there are any other suggestions i’m very thankful. -

Do it in another way.
Link all the layers(make sure all are 3D) to a Null object(3D) and then animate the Null in Z – axis.
I have done this many times. Give it a try.
