  • Extracting image sequence from MP4 movie file

    Folks,

Just got the new DJI Osmo. It does great time lapse, but makes it onboard the camera as an MP4 file, ready to use instantly.

My issue is I want to edit the images as a sequence and tone map the images as a sequence. That means converting the movie back into jpgs or tiffs etc.

Does After Effects do this easily does anyone know?

    Thanks for tips / advice.

    Stephen

You can export a png, tiff, or jpeg sequence from After Effects. It won’t be the original images from the camera of course, but it will give you the individual frames to work with.

Although, I would use the Adobe Media Encoder to do this rather than After Effects.
You should check to see if your camera has an option to record in a different format though. An MP4 file is going to be highly compressed and it uses interframe compression which you probably don’t want.
