    I’m new to C4D, and have set up a scene where a camera is supposed to fly along the surface of a sphere, hitting very precise marks.

    To do this, I placed a null at the center if my sphere and attached the camera to it. I keyed the rotation of the null to essentially create a camera path that is concentric with the planet. For the next bit of tweaking, it would be much easier to edit a motion path, instead of the rotation of the null (which is a too limiting. Can I somehow extract the actual motion path of the camera from this ‘parented’ situation? Delete the null after baking out the current position of the camera as an editable spline? Your help is much appreciated.

    That’s a bit tricky because no position/rotation keys are being created for the camera. The only way I can think of to do it, off the top of my head, is to create a MoGraph Tracer Object referencing the camera, make the tracer editable at the end of the animation, and put an align-to-spline tag on the camera referencing the spline.

    You could make a new Camera, place it last in the ObjectManager,
    then via xpresso connect the original cameras GlobalMatrix
    to the new cameras GlobalMatrix.
    Now you can bake the new camera.

    Interesting. I wish I could wrap my head around the difference between global matrix and global postition/rotation. Can you explain it, Lennart?

    Simply put, the Matrix contains all PSR vectors.
    Then you only need one “wire” to get it all (Position,scale,rotation).

    The global position, scale and rotation are extracted from the matrix,
    for the cases you only want one or two of the parameters.
