  • Extracting audio from AC3 file

Posted by Chris Poisson on November 8, 2006 at 11:14 pm

I have the AC3 file from a 12 minute show, my client wants the audio only, how can I extract it? Compressor won’t take it neither will mpegStreamclip, Compression Master takes it but can’t export it, I want an aiff file. FCP won’t take it either.

    Stumped.

Do you have the old Dolby AC3 program that “used” to come with DVD STUDIO PRO. It could open and output .aifs as long as they were not protected of course.

You can open Ac3 in MPEG Streamclip. You have to use the Demux function to save as Aif, etc.

I don’t have the old Dolby software, and I tried opening the file in mpegStreamclip, but couldn’t get it to go. Will try again.

    Lee,

Yes, thanks, Streamclip did it just fine. Didn’t see the option to select video or audio clip the first time.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it in my post. I’m glad it worked out.
