  • Extract Data from Per-Character 3D Text Layers

Posted by Mark Walczak on March 24, 2011 at 4:44 pm

    Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a way to somehow pull positional data from a single letter of a text layer that is using per-character 3D. Essentially, I have a line of type that is being animated on screen one character at-a-time. The letters are flying in Z-space from off-camera to their landing position.

I would then like to apply a texture to one of the letters without affecting the rest. Is there any way that I can pull positional data from the desired letter and make the texture track with it? Is this possible with expressions, perhaps?

Any and all help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!!!

NOPE! Matchmoving may be a solution BUT it’s much easier to break up the text layer into two parts – one with the single character and the other with the rest of the characters.

No direct way, but you could try replacing the character with a wingdings font that makes it a square. You can then track it in the four corners and use a corner-pin on a font with texture.
Then replace the wingdings with a blank.

    Or use Roland’s suggestion.
