Acer and Lenovo have announced Thunderbolt support.
I find this testing by Magma for their PCIe Thunderbolt Expansion Chassis interesting as their already testing on Boot Camped Macs running Windows 7.

    https://www.magma.com/thunderbolt.asp

High-performance work flows are possible by connecting a Thunderbolt equipped computer to a Magma ExpressBox 3T containing PCIe cards such as video capture, media transcoding, audio processing, and fast data storage.

    This is interesting
So far, no special drivers have been required for Thunderbolt compatibility with Windows 7.

    and this
With this said, testing of graphics cards has been limited therefore we have little to report regarding external graphics except that we are seeing better support of external graphics using Windows compared to external graphics using MacOS. Stay tuned for further updates on graphics cards.

For MacOS, a driver modification is required from the PCIe card provider.

There is an interoperability issue with MacOS using graphics (GPU) cards externally through Thunderbolt.

So it seems they’ll need to be drivers on Mac but not Windows. GPU might be viable on Windows but not Mac.

    Craig,

While I don’t think they directly comparable, you have to note that the Magma box is 1000.00 while the MicroStar box will be 150.00 (including Thunderbolt cable!).

A huge difference in retail; it’ll be interesting to see what the differences are in their potential for editing.

    Franz.

[Craig Seeman] “So it seems they’ll need to be drivers on Mac but not Windows. “

    I find this somewhat ironic.
