    Hi All,

I am getting this ” windows – delayed write failed ” error while accessing big files or putting huge files on this new external USB 2 drive. I was planning to use this 7200rpm drive for editing but now I don’t know. I found that there are lot many people facing this problem while searching on the net, without any answers. Please help. Arnav Sareen it seems you are using external drives successfully. help me if you can, please.

    Thanx in advance.

Don’t edit directly on USB2 or firewire drives, that “delay write” error is common. I’ve been getting it for over 3 years using all kinds of different external drives, enclosures and various versions of Windows.

I recommend edit on your internal drives (configured in a fast RAID if possible) and backup to externals only.

If you work on a laptop this might not be possible, but don’t risk working directly to firewire drives. Your PC/software is doing so many writes/reads to and from your firewire drives that if there is a small glitch you could rick losing valuable work.

I know some people will say they work directly from firewire/USB drives but I don’t think it’s worth the risk for NLE. For other stuff that doesn’t access the drive often like an Excel spreadsheet, or Word — they are fine.

As you said…I will disagree with that statement 🙂 However, if you have internal drives, they should always be given first prioroty.

Now, this error message pops up frequently when your hard-drive either has a bad connection or can’t keep up. What is the speed of the drive? What type of content are you editing?

    I was having it too last year… I fixed mine.. It’s Windows…

Go to Google Or Microsoft help site and enter: XP Delayed write
and follow the Microsoft threads. Print out any of them that applies directly to your situation…. Try the fixes one by one…

The one that fixed mine was as follows:
