We bought a reader at Fry’s Electronics but it did not work. Someone claimed in a post a few months ago that they knew of one but I never saw a follow up.

    hi,

problem is, that expresscards have 2 interfaces they can use (either/or/both)
    PCI-Express
    USB2.0

so all of the current usb adapters except for Sony’s, and pc-card adapters ONLY
    use the USB2.0 interface/bus.

Problem is that sxs cards ONLY work via PCI-Express, so it won’t work in these
    adapters….

SO: Sandisk SxS cards are coming out, and surely they’ll haver their own special USB adapter
    to work with….

    cheers

I PURCHASED A PCI EXPRESS INTERNAL CARD READER THAT WORKS GREAT. I AM ADDING THE WEB SITE. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE CARD READER FOR THE SONY EX1 CARDS.
    GOOD LUCK GARY.
    HERE IS THE WEB SITE.

THIS IS THE CARD READER I GOT.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I guess it looks like Sony’s reader is the only viable one at the moment. Bleh. Was hoping someone would have experimented with the Syncrotech USB device by now.

Gary, I did in fact see your earlier post on the internal reader. Might be a problem for those of us that use Macs though since there isn’t a standard 5-1/4″ slot. A USB reader would really be ideal for us though so we could swap it from station to station.

I ordered one off eBay for $7. We’ll see if it works at all or kills the SxS card.

    Search for “USB ExpressCard/34”

Sorry about the bad news, Allen, but thanks for letting us know. Do you have a link so we know what to stay away from?

So I did some poking around on eBay and found these two listings…

    https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280214891057
    https://item.express.ebay.com/_W0QQitemZ120242442231QQcmdZExpressItem

The second link pretty much says it doesn’t work with PCI Express-based cards and only USB-based ones, so I guess there’s the answer.

    And then I found this…

    https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280144168691

Interesting that for $200 it comes with a 16GB card with the reader. I’ll wager it doesn’t work with the EX1, but geez, how nice would THAT be? Would be nice to see Sony and SanDisk get some competition.

This is the one i bought:

I read somewhere, might have been here, that there are two types of Expresscard readers, those with USB only channel and those with full Expresscard channel. The Sony reader has full support, mine has only USB support. I am pretty familiar with PC tech but this makes little sense to me.

Could anybody tell me how long it takes to ingest a 16gb card with an internal pcie reader and what how the hard speed effects this. Are the internal readers hot swappable? Many thanks
