External Storage
Posted by Yehuda Brandriss on November 9, 2006 at 3:53 pmGot projects with big amount of storage needs. I would appreciate a recomendation for a reliable 1TB firewire Harddrive That I can play video off of it, and works seamlessly with FCP.

November 9, 2006 at 4:10 pmWell, normally I recommend G-Raid drives, but Walter is having an issue with the 1TB model of the G-Raid 2 that he is trying to use with his Mac Pro:

But the 500GB model still seems solid, so get two.
I have two myself, and they are good for DV, HDV, DVCPRO HD, uncompressed 8-bit SD and even one stream of uncompressed 10-bit SD…but that would be pushing the limits.

November 9, 2006 at 4:15 pmG-RAID or LaCie both make excellent FW800 products. The G-RAID2 model Shane is talking about is giving me problems if there are any other FW800 devices connected, though running by itself it’s fine.
But I will say the older model G-RAID 500 and 800’s are faster than this latest model so I’m with Shane on saying go with an older model 500 or 800. Or go with a LaCie Big Disk Extreme which is a bit cheaper than the G-RAID’s. We have both here.
