external storage drives question
we’re running some SCSI external drives for our media on one of FCPs, question is, is there anything we can do to “sleep” the external drives when FCP isn’t running other than shutting them off?

You can tell the System Preferences to put hard drives to sleep when not in use, but that’s a VERY bad thing to do. Better to Eject the drives and turn them off.

ahh, i thought the sys prefs only worked on internal drives, not SCSI drives.
so if i eject and turn them off, when I turn them back on, are they recognized like firewire or USB, or do i need to reboot to see them?
not in front of the system to try it now…thanks!

Not sure about SCSI as I have not used that technology in about three years now, but our SATA and SAS/SATA arrays re-mount just fine.

My SCSI drives used to mount just fine, I always turned them off at night.
