External Monitor on a MacBook Pro – recommendations?
I’m trying to set up PP CS5 on my MBP. I can connect with Firewire to my Canon HV30 and monitor on a TV hooked up to the Canon’s A/V output, if I set the camera’s output to DV. (I’m editing in HDV obviously.)
But my TV also have a VGA input. I tried hooking this up to the Mac, but the only way I could get an image was to drag the PP Program window to this other screen.
Is there a way to have PP display the video image fullscreen on this second monitor? (I think FCP does this.) And am I better off going via the camera, so the Mac gamma stuff doesn’t come into play? (I should mention that the two methods for hooking up the TV result in substantially different images.)

Hi Geoffrey,
Yes, you can simply use the Mac display out, make sure it’s in extended (non mirrored mode). Then go tho the playback settings (Contextual menu at top left of the program monitor) and set the playback output to that display. Black magic also makes a Thunderbolt playback unit if you have the latest model.
