External monitor for iMac
Hello Everyone.
I currently edit HD footage in ProRes422 on my iMac (3.06 Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 9400) that has a mini display port.
I was given a 1080P LCD monitor with HDMI input, and am considering using it as a reference monitor. Not for crucial color correction, but simply as a larger, separate preview monitor.
Can an adapter be used to connect the mini display port to the HDMI input on the monitor?

So simple as that, huh? Cool.
So will this display be available as a View/Video Playback option, or will it simply be dual monitored and I’d drag the Canvas window and resize it in the external monitor?

You would just select Digital Cinema Desktop Preview in View/Video Playback to use a monitor not attached to a capture card (like Decklink or AJA).
Look up “Digital Cinema Desktop Preview” in FCP Help. It tells you all you need to know about configuration and operation.
You seem to be aware of all the reasons why not using a true broadcast monitor for your edit display, so I won’t give you the standard mantra about it.

i also did the same, but the picture is stuck…Showing just frame by frame, and on second monitor not moving at all. Also on the time line is stuck.
iMac i7, 2,8 Mhz, 16 gB RAM…Second monitor NEC P232w connected via hdmi.
