External monitor
Posted by Rasmus Mauritsen on February 13, 2008 at 7:04 pmHi all,
Im trying to get my 32″ Samsung flat-screen to act as an external preview device – but im having trouble.
Could anyone explain the process of setting this up?
Im using a laptop and the flat-screen is connected through the external screen output.
Thanks all! Great forum!
Best regards

February 14, 2008 at 12:17 amThe way you conect the monitor it is not for “external preview device”. It is usefull if you drag the monitor window to the new monitor and use it only for this. In other words, In the notebook screen you have the timeline and in the other you have a full preview.
To use an external monitor you must have a tv/monitor and a camera/deck with firewire conections. Conect the camera/deck to the comnputer with fiorewire cables and video cable for the monitor/tv. Turn the preview external device icon on and you will have the picture in your monitor.
good luck

February 14, 2008 at 2:52 amI have 4 computers or laptops with dual output capabilities.
two of them dont work as an external preview.
Why… I’m not exactly sure. If vegas sees the vid card outputs as seperate entities then it seems to allow the next page for setup.
However…even though I can do “windows” dual monitor on all of them. 2 of my editors wont do vegas ext. preview..Vegas’s setup screen is greyed out as though it is not an option.I thought maybe it because its a shared video memory, not a real card with dedicated ramdacs…..NOPE !! My laptop is shared memory and does a fine job of splitting for external preview.
My tower with 512 megs of ram, dedicated dual outs …isnt recognized ;>(
Hope this helps even though its not an answer.
using:
Vegas 6d
xp proOf course visually I prefer outputting thru a camera to a real monitor anyways
