external moniter specs
Posted by Pressplay on March 2, 2007 at 7:08 pmBeen looking into purchasing a monitor to use with FCP HD externally instead of having to use the canvas.
Any recommendations on a type of monitor and what is the best method to connect to my iMAC G5?Gary Degennaro replied 17 years, 6 months ago 4 Members · 5 Replies -

This topic is discussed quite often on the creative cow FCP forum and the Apple discussions forum. Use the search function to narrow the focus of your question.
Here is a short list of questions you could answer to encourage helpful answers to your monitor question:
SD or HD?
Firewire output through a converter (deck or camera) or output from a card?
Who are you delivering to and in what format, ie DVD, DV tape, Beta SP, internet?

My Sony PVM-1343MD NTSC monitor works great. I hook it up through one of my MiniDV cameras. Got it for less than $300 on eBay.

March 5, 2007 at 3:47 pmHere are more details to my monitor question. Does not have to be HD, will be connected through a camera. Output for the videos is on DVD and also some streaming video for internet use. I’m not needing a top of the line monitor, although my work is for a production company I run, I am in the beginning phase of acquiring equipment. . .looking to spend around $200.

March 6, 2007 at 1:42 pmEbay. Search PVM 13.
pvm 1354Q is a good choice, although it they might be a bit more expensive than you want to pay. 1354Q might also be over kill for your need. Do some internet research on the different models.
Expect to pay a lot for shipping. These monitors won’t be like new. Buyer beware.
Here is another solution…

New, has the features you need. Still a bit pricy for you. But new is good.
20″ monitors are more comfortable to edit with, but not as affordable.
Best of luck,
Tom
