External HD keeps disconnecting
I have a new M1 Pro MacBook. I have a 3 year old USB external HD. I have an adapter to connect it to the laptop. Randomly, for no reason that I can tell, the HD disconnects. It only disconnects when I’m using AE. Doesn’t happen with Premiere or any other software. Sometimes it craps out after 15 minutes, sometimes after 45 minutes. The hard drive icon stays on the desktop. Weird. 🤨

The Apple USB-A to USC-C converter sucks with the new M1s.
We’ve been having issues with all of our older USB drives.
Get a solid cable with no converter or buy a USB-C drive.

I was planning to migrate to all USB-C drives, moving forward; but I’ll probably start moving all legacy projects and files from older USB-A drives on to USB-C drives too. Is there a brand that you like? I’ve always used USB-A Seagate drives from Target. 😳
