    Hello Team ! A question for all…

We’ve recently had some external hard drives that have crashed; meaning that we’ve captured onto them through our final cut system and when we’ve turned on the computer the next day, a message pops up saying that the drive is unreadable. And so all is lost because we have to erase the drive and start again.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem?

My guess is perhaps we’ve overloaded the drive – I think you’re supposed to leave 10% capacity remaining but we may have left less than that…

Any advice or comments are much appreciated !!

    Many thanks,
    Carly.

    Hi Carly,

Next time, before you trash the drive or reformat give Disk Warrior a go. It’s saved me a couple of times.

If you don’t keep a decent amount of space free on your drive it will be forced to work harder. If a drive is full or near full it’s at its most vulnerable. I’ve had a couple go bad like this and lock up. I’ve learnt my lesson and leave 10% free on my RAID and between 15-20% free on my portable drives (even with my MP3 player).

    Cheers,
    Ben
