I can’t seem to figure this out or get an answer on it.

I plugged an empty LACie 500g external into my 17inch 1.67 power book. The Desktop icon tells me I only have 46GB available. I click on the drive and the bottom window info tells me I have all space available. Why the difference?
Someone told me it could be a bad drive.

I then tried a brand new empty G-raid 500gig. And the same thing! The Desktop icon tells me I only have .56GB available.

So I tried the drives on my 12inch and the same thing happens. It doesn’t read these drives as empty.

I tried Erase Disc. But that didn’t help.

    What am I doing wrong?
Do I need to do anything to the drives to get the powerbooks to read and report the true space available?

I thought these drives were simple plug and play.

Try running Disk Utility and disk first aid on it. If that fails, and an erase (reformatting it Mac OS Extended) doesn’t work, I’d suggest that something is wrong with the disk… Might call LaCie about it…
