Hey all – a little frustrated – I know I can’t easily upgrade (if at all) my GPU in my MacBook -I am trying to find an external GPU – but I have had issue in the past with peripherals being recognized by my Mac – but not Adobe Programs – does anyone have any advice ?

    Thanks in advance

    Hey Gary,

Although not helpful to you today: Sadly Apple is a closed system, although new versions of some of their products are reported to come with tools for “home-repairs” – can only be a question of time, before that could include adding upgrades (from Apple, or otherwise…).

As an alternative, would a cloud rendering solution work for you?
Obviously you might need a fairly big data connection, depending on your source/out-put file formats.

Have gone through hardware / peripheral issues before, usually trying to save some $$ on my end. What I have learned is that by the time I either find a solution or give up, I’ve spent more time than a new computer would cost. Your time is worth money. I either try to hang on as long as I can or take my current edit station and move it down a notch to lesser tasks, and bring in a newer computer that will do the job for the foreseeable future. There’s also (at least there was for me) a lot less frustration and hair pulling. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks Dennis – I absolutely am close to cutting losses and doing a new unit.

It also appears the with M1 chips there is no value for an eGPU

It has little or no effect

    But thanks again
