I ‘m new to video editing. I’ve learned that I should use an external drive with my G4 powerbook to store my captured source DV. What suggestions do you have as far as connection types and brands that will work best with my apple. Should I get one with Firewire 400 or 800, USB 2, ect. Most external drives I’ve found at Best buy and CC all have USB 2 connections. I’ve read that USB 2 is out of the question. Should I connect my Camera to the external or my powerbook, and do I save source clips to the internal drive and then move them to the external?
If I get an external drive with Firewire 400, then how would I plug the camera in at the same time, (its also a firewire 400 connection. Please let me know if I’m asking the wrong questions. Thanks

If you have a powernook you can go with an external FW 400 drive. The camera attaches at the end of the daisy chain.

Make the FW drive the drive for your media disk and avoid capturing to your boot drive (the boot drive does not want to play back footage and run applications at the same time.

Please try to list your questions in order:

Thank you for the reply. After my last post I checked out the G-Tech add on the web page. This seems to be just what i need.
I’ll organize my questions better in the future, thanks again. Dean
