Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy External Drive or Computer Drive?

    External. Because the system drive is often 5200 PRM…which is too slow. And one thing that it constantly does, because it houses the OS, is constantly accesses system resources. This will cause video playback to be interrupted, and you will get dropped frames.

    Up to you if you want to do it. Those are the reasons not too.

    Oh, and if the drive dies, and the project and media are lost…well..hosed.

    Thanks, Shane. I’m trying to convince a friend (an amateur editor) that saving to the computer is a no no. I keep telling him that you can buy an external for next to nothing nowadays. He’ll learn soon enough lol

    You can also use a Hard Drive in the computer.
    If it’s a second drive, just as a long as it’s not the OS/Apps Drive.
