    Excuse me?
    ‘only’ 1.5 TERRABYTE?

My first NLE had 4 Gigabyte, and i’ve paid 4 times as much for that.
(do the math, that was 1500 times more expensive..)
And i’ve done PBS broadcast with only 4 gigabyte.

He’s doing HDV. 1.5 terrabyte gives him over 100 hours of digitized footage, with room to spare for renders.

Now think about redigging the 130 hours he can have using no raid protection… (and we all know that drives WILL fail, it is just a matter of WHEN.)

1.5 terrabyte should be plenty for a normal setup.

I’m running a post-production boutique (beside the programming).
2 suites on 2.5 TB shared storage, and it serves my needs. Most of the time i don’t do offline-online since it’s not needed anymore, but sometimes i still do.
For example, i’m working on a doc now with about 100 hours of material, and that’ll take about half a year. Just the extra power consumption for additional drives will be more expensive than redigging the locked show).

If you’re on a budget, time to get creative. But with todays tools and cost, i don’t see that many problems.

[David Roth Weiss] “That seems like an awfully big unit for so little drive space.”

The drive is actually a lot smaller than it looks in pictures. It’s got a huge blue light on the front, though. I personally find that kind of stuff a distraction. Maybe you can turn it off.
