There are some terminal commands you have to run to allow the external connections to the database. BM support will be able to get you straightened out.

Here we use a postgres server installed on a server running Ubuntu directly from the Ubuntu repository.

Just make sure that the server has remote access and that you make a user specifically for davinci. Davinci itself takes care of creating the databases etc.
