  • Expressions for layer interactions

    Hello,

I am trying to have several layers with video inside falling from the top of the screen and landing on the bottom of the screen piling up one on top of another.
I also want them so have a little bit of bounce when they land (including bouncing on their corners which would logically make them rebound in somewhat of a diagonal direction) and to be able to roll down the pile.
Basically I started from Dan’s gravity/fall expression but I need to create interaction between the layers and also to have all the sides of the layer to be able to rebound.

Any idea on how to do this?
    Thanks in advance

3D all the way. Some of the packages offer rigid-body dynamics, which is what you’re talking about. Unless you want to spend a lot of time doing this by hand, or you don’t need something realistic, or you’re capable of programming a complete rigid-body dynamics system, you shouldn’t try this in AE. 🙂

    Thank you for your responses,
But I forgot to mention that it’s only a 2D environment.
I don’t need the layers to behave as a paper kind material,on the contrary, there are rather rigid.
That’s why Dan’s gravity expression was a great start but I can’t make the layers interact with each other and they can only rebound straight up, they can’t rebound on the corners and bounce on a diagonal direction.

It would be very difficult to this with expressions due to the lack of persistent variables. It would be a lot easier (but not easy) to something like this in Flash (or a 3D app as the others have suggested).
