  • Expression to Read Timecode of main / outer comp

Posted by Ace Billet on April 1, 2011 at 8:48 pm

I have a video with some User Interface animations.

I want to include a time code on all the instances of that GUI,
BUT… I don’t want it to read its own comp’s TC (beacuse this would be 00:01 and going… and then next time it will also start from 00:00)

It should read the main / outside comp. So whenever you see the time code, it’s in sync
with the real time. The GUI itself is nested about 5 comps deep in the “main” comp.

Is there an effect combined with an expression that can pull this off ?

    cheers

I would just pre-compose the timecode from within the comp you want to use as the source of the timecode and then drop that pre-comp in whatever other comp you want to use it in.

Or, you can build an expression-based timecode clock and link across comps to the one you want to use as the source. Check this out…
