Expression to make something float?
I was wondering if anyone knows whether there is an expression to make an object look like it is floating. For example, I have a vector graphic of a fish that I want to make look like it is floating. If anyone can help me out that’d be great! Thanks.

Floating on water, or in the air? A slow wiggle() is probably a good place to start.

I currently have a wiggle expression of (2,5,1) but it makes the image disappear every so often. It wiggles, but every couple of frames the image disappears and then reappears, so I’m not sure what causes this. I’m not exactly great with expressions either. -

Is it going off screen? Too much wiggle.
If not, if it just vanishes for an instant, is the layer long enough for the comp? Sometimes they get slid left of right a few frames and then when you ram preview you see the gaps.

Yea, sorry I wasn’t too specific. It does vanish. It looks like it just vanishes for a couple of frames and then pops back on where it was, wiggles a little bit, and the cycle repeats. And yep, the layer is the right length.

Is it a 3D layer? At a guess, the disappearing might be because the wiggle is making it move back behind another layer in the z-plane.
One solution might be to add a Transform effect, and apply the wiggle expression to the position controller within the Transform effect.

Well, it looks like you were right. It does end up shifting behind the background layer. So that has helped.
