    Hi everyone,

As Adobe hasn’t done a great job of implementing onion skinning when painting in AE, I’m making my own onion skinned comp for doing hand-drawn animations.

I’ve made my main comp (that I want to paint on), and inside that comp I’ve nested a 25% opacity solid with a paint effect. Within that effect, I’ve added expressions that mimic the path and position of the paint stroke on the parent comp—but sample values from the previous frame. The end result is a main comp that I can paint on, which also shows the brush stroke from the previous frame in a lighter opacity.

The only trouble appears to be that I can’t access the varying brush size that I get when drawing on my Wacom tablet. So the comped layer mimics the path—but does so with a single-width brush. Since many of the frames go from very small to very large strokes, it would be really helpful if I could create something that was absolutely true to the original painted stroke.

Any thoughts on how I might access the variable brush size property through an expression?
