Expression: randow wiggle, with a twist (Dan?)
Posted by Chris Ruckert on January 28, 2007 at 8:56 pmI am trying to write an expression…
I need to simulate the kind of bounciness (wiggle) that would occur with a camera mounted inside a fast moving car.
Meaning that there is wiggle, but not constant wiggle, there would be sime wiggle, then static (or very little drift, then another burst of wiggle etc…is there a way to write an expression for this?
thanks in advance!!

January 28, 2007 at 10:38 pmThis seems kinda random and organic for an expression, but I’m no expert in that field. But, failing any expession help, I’d get some input from the “practicle” world. Mount a camera in a car, set up a couple of tracking points in the car, record while you drive like a maniac. Take aforementioned Video into AE, motion track and transfer the tracking data to the camera or parent. It sounds easy, but I’m sure it’s more involved. Well writing a complicated expression sounds hard.

January 28, 2007 at 11:06 pmHey, I just read about how to create a similar effect- an earthquake easing in and out- in the Cow magazine. It’s in the Dec06-Feb07 issue on page 30. Andrew Kramer explains it all very well. If you don’t have the magazine maybe ask Andrew to help you out.

January 29, 2007 at 12:35 amHi,
You don’t need to create an expression, you can use The Wiggler window. To do that, you need to put some position keyframe in your camera position. Just put one position keyframe where you want your shake start and another where you want that stop, them select the 2 keyframes that you created and go in the the window menu/ The Wiggle. In the Wiggker menu, select spatial Path, smooth (if you want smooth moviment), frequency (how many frames per second you want it change) and Magnitude (how far you want the moviment). Apply that…
Now you can do it in the whole timeline…Just put other 2 keyframes and Apply… do how many time you want.
You have a Wiggle between the 2keyframes and a static moviment after, till the next wiggle start.GUERA – EL MATADORE!

January 29, 2007 at 12:43 amI’d suggest using an expression slider, so you can keyframe your “bounciness.”
Also, since the expression forum exists now, you should probably ask this there instead.

January 29, 2007 at 1:38 amYou might want to checkout Quaker, an Animation Preset free from Scott Frizzle. It’s a gem.
https://scottfrizzle.com/free.html
Applying Preset the first time:
Select the layer you wish to affect, and go to Animation > Apply Aniamtion Preset.
Find Quaker on your harddrive and select it (quaker.ffx).
(If you put it in your Abode After Effects>Support Files > Presets folder,
that way it will always appear in your Preset menu.)Quaker incorporates motion tile to fill in the edges of the shaking layer.
It is also very adjustable, sliders to control Quake Magnitude and Quake Frequency.
I’m sure you can get a constant jitter, then big bumps along the road.
A pdf comes with the zip that explains all.
