Expression needed for “Based On” in Text Animator!
Is there a way to build an expression for the “Based On” parameter within a text animator? I’d like to control it with a dropdown menu on the layer. Since there is no stopwatch icon, I cannot figure out how to write an expression for this. Any advice?

You can only add expressions to properties that can be animated. No stopwatch, no expression.
As a workaround, you might consider multiple layers, each one with a different “Based on” value, and link their opacity to your dropdown so that only one is actually visible.

I have been wondering about the same thing.
Any idea why there is a pickwhip next to the “Based On” drop down?
Seems a bit odd that there is a pickwhip, but nothing to link it to.
