Need to run an expression that does a random position wiggle at a prescribed time and slowly comes back to a stand still. Need to be able to control the amount of wiggle and the time it takes to return the layer to a stationary position.

    Thanks much!

You need to attach a slider “expression control” to your amplitude variable and animate the slider value.

Search the COW for “amplitude”. There was a recent post covering this.

Here’s that recent post, or “How I learned (from Steve) to plug sliders into where I want ’em”:

    Subject: Re: Wiggle Expression

Set up the amplitude (amp) as a variable, and link it to an animated “expression controls” slider effect in the same layer.

Apply the expression controls effect, using a slider. Make it visible in the timeline. Apply the wiggle expression with a value for freq, but leave amp as is, and write amp= ; in a line above the expression. With the cursor in the space after the = , pickwhip to the slider.

Now the amp value is determined by the slider value. Animate the slider value, and the amplitude of the wiggle will follow.

Thanks very much for the responses but the info included is not exactly what I’m looking for. The wiggle part is not the problem. Having the wiggle start at a particular time and slowly reducing amplitude and frequency and ultimately coming to a stop at another pre-determined time is the part I need.

    Hey,

You still can do this using the slider controls mentioned before. You can keyframe either the amplitude or frequency controls to start or end wherever you want them to in the timeline, which would then control the amplitude and frequency of the wiggler…so simple, and it WORKS!

    Take care,

    Nick

Someone slap me on the side of the head. I get it. Works great! Thanks guys!
