Thanks for all the help Tom!, I’ve read all the solutions to the ” one bus with multiple FW ports” problem. Does using an Express 34 card for an extra bus anyway,( one for the capture deck, and one for the external )make smoother capturing and less dropped frames? Even if not using a Canon for capture?
Soon i will stop clogging the forum!

If you’re using a Sony you can daisy-chain the camera through the FireWire drive.

    All the best,

thats what I’ve been doing for a while. Sony cam to G Drive Q via FW 400- G Drive to Powerbook via FW 800. Yes the system would drop frames on occasion, but works over all very well. I’m just wondering if the Extra Bus would make it work Better!

Yes it will, you are on a PowerBook so you will need a PCMCIA Card, if you were on a Macbook Pro you would need an Express Card.

If your external drive has an eSATA connection then getting a eSATA card is even better because eSATA is 2X faster then FW 800.
