Activity Forums DSLR Video Exposure Compensation in Movie Mode – Aperture

I believe the reason that the default is to change the shutter speed is that when you change the f-stop, there is a mechanical movement in the camera that not only makes a noise, but also makes an abrupt change in the video brightness that is very harsh. On a cinema lens, there is smooth, continuous control over aperture, where as on a photography lens there are finite steps.

Another guess at this would be that changing the aperture as opposed to the shutter speed would effect depth of field. It may be setup that way so as to keep DOF consistent in a shot series.

To solve your problem press menu, go one over, click the first option “movie exposure”, and click manual. Bam! Now in movie mode you can change aperture, shutter speed, and iso. From my knowledge it is basically like manual mode but allows video. I’m super stoked about this function and wish I knew about it sooner. Anyway hope that helped.
