Is mp4 my best/only option for exporting PPro sequences?
I shoot with a Canon DSLR, 24p, 1080. I know the footage gets compressed natively onto the SD card by the camera with the H264 codec. No problem with that. However, I dump the footage directly onto a PPro timeline, do my thing, and when it comes time to export, I go to name the file and see that the only option is mp4.
Isn’t my native footage on the SD card already stepped on with the H264 codec? I get that this is how the camera works, but doesn’t exporting to mp4 step on it once more? How can I export it without stepping on it a 2nd time?

“No. Far from it. There are literally dozens of options. When you export media, you should get the option to send to Media Encoder where there are more presets than you’d want to count.

Export settings depend on what you intend to do with the file.
Smart rendering is only for a few codec. H.264 not being one of them.

Ah, I see. I’ve been going to Export, then choosing H264 “Match Source-High Bitrate”, and then hitting “Export” instead of “Queue”. Thanks.
