I will be exporting an hour long OMF file out of FCP for Pro-tools. My question is- Do I have to manually provide handles (run each audio clip a few seconds longer than it actually is, to allow the PT editor to fade out) or does an OMF file come equipped with handles and the original length of the audio files can be stretched within Pro-tools?

Also, I read that you cannot import OMF files back into FCP? Is this true.

Thanks in advance…hopefully I made my question clear.

When you choose “Export Audio to OMF” there is an option to include handles and an input box for you to set the length of the handles. There is also a checkbox to include crossfade transisitons.

As far as importing an OMF I believe you are correct in your assumptions. You should have your sound guy (or yourself if it’s you) bounce the protools session to aiff then import that back in to FCP

    cheers

You lose all gain settings etc doing it that way. Also handles will be the new ins & outs

If you want to preserve your gain & pan settings use Automatic Duck
