When exporting using compressor, what is the standard MPEG format to use, and what’s a good format to use for low quality video thats small in size and good to send around? Thanks.

There is no set standard. MPEG 4 is very common. Also known as .h264. There are a few presets available 300kbps is average. You will find the preset under Apple/Other Workflows/Web/Download/QuickTime 7

As Steve says, the Compressor presets are very well designed.
For MPG2 use the one that fits for the duration of your DVD. For the web, the QT7 compatible are h264 and give an incredible good quality. In the Compressor’s Inspector window yu can see how big will be the file on exporting. As Steve pointed, I use the 300Kbps.
