  • Exporting Transfer Modes??

Posted by Benjamin Eshagpoor on January 21, 2008 at 7:06 pm

This is gonna be a dumb question, mostly because I feel like I already know that answer, so I guess I’m looking for more of a solution than an answer…

You can’t export transfer modes in AE CS3, can you? I’m creating graphics over a low-rez output of an infommercial that’s still being edited on an Avid in the other room, but in some of the graphics I’m creating, I have some layers that I want to have certain effects that come with transfer modes. How do I export the files so that they can import them into the Avid for their online session and still retain the effects that I’m creating using the transfer modes??

    Does that make sense??

    Lemme know,

I’m not familiar with Avid systems, but if there’s a way to assign blending modes in Avid as there is in FCP then you will need to render out a separate file for each blending mode you want used in the final composite with only those elements that will use that blending mode. So, for example, render out an Add pass with only glows and a Multiply pass with only shadows and let your Avid guru know which is which so that they can assign a different blend mode to each.

Generally, however, I would probably work in the other direction and render my final output from AE using the final cut from Avid instead.

Aaahhh….my good friend Darby…I was actually wondering if you’d reply first…hahaha.

Thanks for the reply…as far as I know, Avid does not have the capabilities of utilizing transfer modes like Final Cut does which sucks and is part of why I’m constantly champion Final Cut (but 6 dozen of 1 and half a dozen of the other…).

Anywho…in the interim, I think I’ll just change the opacity of the certain layers for the time being to cheat the effect.

Thanks again for replying…I enjoy hearing from you.

    All the best,

    Ben

Thought I would add my 2 cents.

As much as I love AVID, AVID does not ulitlize transfer modes. I’ve seen a plug-in…

    http://www.profoundeffects.com

used to offer AVX plug-in’s to simulate transfer modes…but it’s not on their site anymore. You may find luck with someone else.

If that’s not feasable…you could export your material same as source from the AVID and bring it into AFX and do the final render to your AVID codec from there.

I do that alot, and make a submaster…keeping my original media in the timeline so I have a TC reference…pretty clumsy, but it’s what we AVID people have to do I guess.

I realize this is a late response, but you can find the transfer/blending mode plugin here… https://images.digitalmedianet.com/projects/profoundeffects/plugins/free_plugins.htm

I don’t have any experience with it, but found it because I’m trying to do the same thing.
