I shot footage on a Sony DCR SV75 Handycam. The camera records in MPEG2 and the video signal is PAL Colour. I simply wanted to edit via FCP and burn to a PAL DVD – running time 40 mins.
I imported the MPEG files to my MAC ibook and then converted them to Apple DV PAL format using streamclip so that I could get them into a QT movie. I read somewhere that Apple DV PAL format was a good one to use. That seemed to work ok and having imported the files into FCP I did the edit. I then tried to export the edited sequence as a QT movie so that I could burn to DVD on Roxio Titanium Toast 6.0.9
    I don’t have Compressor.
I selected Export – Quicktime Movie – (not to be self-contained) – using Current Settings. My sequence presets were and still are DV PAL. FCP created the reference file in about four minutes. The playback quality of this file was ok but when I checked its properties the file format was DV/DVCPRO – NTSC!! Obviously when I tried to burn this to DVD PAL it looked awful.
I retried the export process this time selecting the format as DV PAL 48 kHz – not Current Settings as before. And this time tried it as a self-contained movie. It took 4 hours to export and the file was of poor play-back quality – jitters, freezes, etc.
Is my work flow all wrong and if so please suggest a better one or if my workflow is ok what am I doing wrong? I am completely lost, please help, Many thanks for any response.
