    Hi,

What do people recommend as the definitive solution to getting broadcast quality MPEG-2 files that can be run on Windows Media Player from FCP5.0?

I am a video journalist and need to export pieces I make in FCP to MPEG-2 format. I will then FTP these over the internet. The compression needs to be such that about 60 seconds of video and sound fits into about 50MB. I need the MPEG-2 file to be able to be read by a PC running Windows Media Player. I also need the compression to not take too long as I will be running on deadlines.

Unfortunately, using Final Cut (version 5) I cannot make even a MPEG2 file that runs on Windows Media Player. Compressor sucks, often crashes and the .m2v files it produces look dreadful. Also when there’s movement there are strange line effects around the edges.

I read on other posts that Compressor is poorly regarded and it’s better to buy 3rd party software like MainConcept, BitVice or Compression Master3.

    Any help greatly appreciated. Cheers!

    Antony

The best bet is Cleaner 6.5 – it rocks for Multiplexed MPEG 2 4:2:0

Make sure they want 4:2:0 and not 4:2:2

Another brilliant thing is from MANICONCEPT https://www.mainconcept.com/products.shtml

    makes 422 and 420
    regards
