  • Exporting to Movie, no matter what codec, things aren’t right

    Hello,
this may sound odd, but it stems from the fact that up until now, my final cut projects have remained as final cut projects, and never exported movies..
i’ve been trying to export a shot, and no matter what i choose, there’s always something wrong.. i’ve used NTSC DV Anamorphic, DV, HDCPro 30p, Apple intermediate, etc etc..
my project itself is 854X480, 16:9 (obviously) 48khz, 30p, etc..
i simply cant seem to find a codec that simply renders a movie with the same dimensions and image quality..
some end up making a horizontally squashed 720×480 mov, which i do not want,
some end up with 1280X720, and those would be ok, however, certain aspects of the image are distorted (a starfield ending up with blurry oval stars for example)

isnt there simply some way i can easily configure the AV settings to just export to EXACTLY what i see in my project? how hard could it be?
I tried a custom with 854×480, but it also had the oval stars, etc…

please help, this is driving me up the wall

    thanks very much

Export from the Timeline and leave it as “Current Settings” and it will use whatever codec / frame size your timeline is currently set for.

thanks for your suggestion, but that was the first thing i tried..
it comes out as a 720×480 squashed anamorphic… at the “current settings” setting..
    i dont understand..

This is because what you are seeing IS anamorphic. In other words anamorphic video IS squeezed, so it is actually exporting exactly what you are working with, but your broadcast monitor and FCP adjust for it. To get around this drop your anamorphic sequence into a non-anamorphic timeline and export from there. You will probably end up with a letterboxed 4:3 exported movie. Hope this helps.

ok, so what i understand is that I should

1: make a new project, make sure it is in a format that isnt anamorphic (NTSC DV 48khz)?

2: go from there, keep working etc.

    HOWEVER

when I export, isnt there some way that it would simply export as a file that is 854X480?, like a ‘pre-stretched’ anamorphic
