exporting to for Encore using a Mac
Hello,
I’ve been making animations to go between menus on a DVD, ie transitions between pages. When I have previously done this on PC using AE6.5 I have had the option to export them as MPEG2 (I think that was the setting) so that I could then import the clips into Adobe Enoce without having to transcode them, giving me better results.However, I the animations I have been working on now are on a Powerbook, still running AE 6.5, but I can find the same export setting as the one on the PC that I used to create the clips for Encore. I realise this might be unclear as I haven’t mentioned the settings I used on the PC, but does anyone know how to export from AE 6.5 on a mac to make M2Vs or supported clips in Encore. I would rather not have to Transcode the clips from Sorenson3 quicktimes into MPEGS.
any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, do you have Final Cut, I think you can export from there.
I would suggest you export your animations to a good Quicktime Codec like Animation or for smaller file sizes, Photo-JPG At 100 percent.
These files then can be transcoded in final cut or in encore with great results.
Sorenson 3 is a delivery format much like mpg-2, you don’t want to every cross transcode these end formats. Stay with a high quality or uncompressed format until you are ready to publish.

How about using compressor to make the MPEG-2 clips? Then import them into Encore if it will allow?

I am just unsure of the settings required to export them as MPEG2 from AE. I use the sorenson 3 compresser if I am displaying the video as a quicktime on a computer because I find it gives far better and cleaner results than any of the other compressors. I’ll give the MPEG to a go and let you know what happens, unless anyone else knows what I need to do.

As Andrew suggested, I’d use AE to render (not “export”) to the Animation (or Photo-JPEG) codec. Then you can use Compressor to make the MPEG-2.

By “render” do you mean Make Movie? because that’s what I meant by export. Sorry for any confusion, error on my part.
I shall try the Animation and PhotoJPEG settings and then try to turn it into an MPEG using Compressor.

No worries — it’s just that AE has a specific “export” command, which is different from “Make Movie”. And yes, when AE users say “render” when referring to rendering a file, they mean “Make Movie” using the Render Queue.
